Amy Grant - West Wendover, Nevada

Amy Grant (born November 25, 1960) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She is known for her contributions to contemporary Christian music (CCM) and has been referred to as "The Queen of Christian Pop." Grant has also achieved success in mainstream music.

Amy Lee Grant was born in Augusta, Georgia, and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She is the youngest of four sisters. Grant began singing in church and later started writing her own songs. She attended Furman University and later transferred to Vanderbilt University.

Grant's debut album, Amy Grant, was released in 1977 when she was just 17 years old. The album was well-received in the Christian music community and established her as a rising star in the genre.

Breakthrough and Mainstream Success[edit | edit source]

In 1982, Grant released the album Age to Age, which included the hit single "El Shaddai." The album was a commercial success and won her a Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance, Contemporary.

Grant's crossover into mainstream music came with the release of Unguarded in 1985. The album featured the hit single "Find a Way," which became her first song to reach the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Her 1991 album Heart in Motion was a significant commercial success, featuring the hit single "Baby Baby," which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Grant continued to release successful albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including House of Love and Behind the Eyes. She has also released several Christmas albums, which have been well-received.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Grant married fellow Christian musician Gary Chapman in 1982, and they had three children together. The couple divorced in 1999. In 2000, she married country singer Vince Gill, and they have one daughter together.

Amy Grant has won numerous awards throughout her career, including six Grammy Awards and 22 GMA Dove Awards. She has also been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
