Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Crisanti was born in Rome, Italy. He completed his undergraduate studies in Medicine at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". He then pursued his PhD in Molecular Biology at the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste, Italy.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his PhD, Crisanti moved to the United States where he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He then returned to Italy and joined the University of Perugia as a professor. In 2001, he moved to the United Kingdom and joined the Imperial College London where he currently serves as a professor in the Department of Life Sciences.

Crisanti's research primarily focuses on the molecular biology and genetics of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, and the mosquito species, Anopheles gambiae, which is the main vector of malaria. He is known for his pioneering work in the development of gene drive systems for the control of mosquito populations.
