Androstadienol

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Androstadienol is a steroid produced in the human body. It is one of the androstane pheromones, which are chemicals that affect the behavior of others of the same species. Androstadienol is found in higher concentrations in male sweat and has been shown to affect the mood of women.

Production and Function[edit | edit source]

Androstadienol is produced in the adrenal glands, which are small glands located on top of each kidney. The adrenal glands produce a variety of hormones, including cortisol, adrenaline, and androgens. Androstadienol is one of the androgens produced by these glands.

The function of androstadienol in the human body is not fully understood. However, it is known to be a pheromone, which is a chemical that affects the behavior of others of the same species. In humans, androstadienol has been shown to affect the mood of women. In one study, women who were exposed to androstadienol reported feeling more relaxed and less tense.

Research[edit | edit source]

Research into the effects of androstadienol is ongoing. Some studies have suggested that it may have a role in human attraction. However, more research is needed to fully understand the effects of this pheromone on human behavior.
