Tosti began her career in Italy, where she quickly gained recognition for her expertise in dermatology. In 2004, she moved to the United States to join the faculty of the University of Miami as a Professor of Dermatology.

She is particularly known for her work on alopecia, a condition causing hair loss, and onychomycosis, a common nail infection.

Tosti is also a prolific author, having written over 700 scientific articles and several books on dermatology. She is the editor of the leading textbook "Dermoscopy of Hair and Scalp Disorders," which is widely used in dermatology training worldwide.
