Averill A. Liebow

Averill A. Liebow (1911-1978) was an eminent pathologist known for his significant contributions to the field of pulmonary pathology. He was born on August 3, 1911, in San Francisco, California, and passed away on October 1, 1978.

Liebow was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, and later attended the University of Chicago for his medical degree. He completed his residency in pathology at the Yale School of Medicine.

Liebow's career was marked by his significant contributions to the field of pulmonary pathology. He is best known for his work on lung diseases, particularly interstitial lung disease and lung cancer. His research led to the classification of several new types of lung diseases, including desquamative interstitial pneumonia and lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia.
