• Big Coppitt Key is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Monroe County, Florida, United States, in the lower Florida Keys. The community is named after the coppit tree, a local species of the buttonwood genus.

Geography

• Big Coppitt Key is located at 24.6 degrees north, 81.4 degrees west (24.600, -81.400), in the lower Florida Keys, about 10 miles east of Key West. The CDP has a total area of 4.1 square miles, of which 2.4 square miles is land and 1.7 square miles is water.

Demographics

• As of the 2010 census, there were 2,894 people residing in Big Coppitt Key. The population density was 1,204.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the CDP was 91.2% White, 4.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.1% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 20.8% of the population.
