Boston MedFlight
Boston MedFlight is a non-profit organization that provides emergency and inter-facility air and ground critical care transport in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. Founded in 1985, Boston MedFlight is a consortium of seven Boston-area medical centers and is contracted by these hospitals to provide critical care transport services.
History[edit | edit source]
Boston MedFlight was established in 1985 by a consortium of seven Boston-area medical centers. The organization was created to provide a higher level of care during patient transport, beyond what a traditional ambulance could provide. Since its inception, Boston MedFlight has transported over 75,000 critical patients.
Services[edit | edit source]
Boston MedFlight provides both air and ground transport services. The organization operates three helicopters, a fixed-wing aircraft, and several ground vehicles. All vehicles are equipped with advanced medical equipment and staffed by highly trained medical personnel, including nurses, paramedics, and respiratory therapists.
Air Transport[edit | edit source]
Boston MedFlight's air transport services are used for the most critical patients. The organization's helicopters are capable of reaching any location in New England within 60 minutes. The fixed-wing aircraft is used for longer transports, including international transports.
Ground Transport[edit | edit source]
In addition to air transport, Boston MedFlight also provides critical care ground transport. This service is used for shorter distances, or when weather conditions do not allow for air transport.
Training and Education[edit | edit source]
Boston MedFlight is committed to advancing the field of critical care transport. The organization provides ongoing training and education for its staff, and also offers a variety of educational programs for the broader medical and aviation communities.
