Butterworth Hospital (Michigan)

Butterworth Hospital is a healthcare facility located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is a part of the Spectrum Health system, a not-for-profit health system in West Michigan offering a full continuum of care through the Spectrum Health Hospital Group, which is comprised of 12 hospitals, including Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, a state of the art children's hospital that opened in January 2011, and 190 service sites.

Butterworth Hospital was founded in 1873 by Richard E. Butterworth, a prominent local businessman. The hospital was initially a 12-bed facility located in the Butterworth family home. Over the years, the hospital has grown and evolved, becoming a part of the Spectrum Health system in 1997.

Butterworth Hospital offers a wide range of medical services, including cardiology, oncology, neurology, orthopedics, and emergency medicine. The hospital is also home to the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center, the Hauenstein Neuroscience Center, and the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion.

Accreditations and Recognitions[edit | edit source]

Butterworth Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. The hospital has also been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, and pulmonology.
