Castilla–La Mancha
Castilla–La Mancha is an autonomous community of Spain. Located in the central part of the country, it is the third largest autonomous community in Spain, covering an area of 79,463 square kilometers. The region is bordered by Castilla y León, Madrid, Aragon, Valencia, Murcia, Andalusia, and Extremadura.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of Castilla–La Mancha dates back to the Roman Empire, when the area was part of the Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the region was invaded by various Germanic tribes, including the Visigoths. In the 8th century, the region was conquered by the Moors, who ruled it until the Reconquista in the 11th century.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Castilla–La Mancha is characterized by its vast plains, mountain ranges, and numerous rivers. The region is home to several natural parks, including the Tablas de Daimiel National Park and the Cabañeros National Park. The region's climate is characterized by hot summers and cold winters, with significant temperature variations between day and night.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Castilla–La Mancha is diverse, with agriculture, industry, and services all playing significant roles. The region is known for its production of wine, olive oil, and Manchego cheese, a type of cheese made from the milk of the Manchega sheep breed. The region is also a major producer of saffron, a spice derived from the flower of the saffron crocus.

Castilla–La Mancha is rich in cultural heritage, with numerous historical sites, festivals, and traditions. The region is famous for its association with the fictional character Don Quixote, created by the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. The region's cultural heritage is reflected in its numerous castles, windmills, and historical towns, such as Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
