Christen Friis Rottbøll
Christen Friis Rottbøll (3 March 1727 – 15 June 1797) was a prominent Danish physician and botanist, remembered for his contributions to the field of botany and for being a pioneer in the study of Danish flora. He was a student of the famous botanist Carl Linnaeus, and his work significantly contributed to the botanical sciences in Denmark and beyond.

Christen Friis Rottbøll was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He pursued his education in medicine and botany at the University of Copenhagen, where he developed a keen interest in the plant kingdom. His passion for botany was further nurtured under the guidance of Carl Linnaeus, with whom he studied at the University of Uppsala in Sweden. This mentorship under Linnaeus played a crucial role in shaping Rottbøll's future contributions to botany.

After completing his studies, Rottbøll returned to Denmark, where he was appointed as the head of the Botanical Garden in Copenhagen. He dedicated his career to the study and classification of plants, following the Linnaean system. Rottbøll's most significant work, Descriptiones Plantarum, was a comprehensive catalog of plants, which included many new species that he discovered and classified.
Rottbøll's contributions extended beyond the confines of the botanical garden. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Danish Veterinary and Agricultural University, reflecting his interest in applying botanical knowledge for practical purposes, particularly in agriculture and veterinary science.
