Columbia Hospital for Women was established in 1866, shortly after the American Civil War, to address the healthcare needs of women and children. The hospital was initially located in a rented house on Thomas Circle in Washington, D.C. In 1870, it moved to a new building on L Street NW, where it remained until its closure.
In 1916, the hospital moved to a larger facility at 2425 L Street NW, which allowed it to expand its services and accommodate more patients. Over the years, Columbia Hospital for Women became renowned for its contributions to women's health, particularly in the fields of obstetrics and gynecology.
