Diving support equipment

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Diving support equipment refers to the various types of equipment and tools used to support scuba and other forms of underwater diving. This equipment is designed to aid divers in their underwater activities, including exploration, research, and construction.

Types of Diving Support Equipment[edit | edit source]

Diving Masks[edit | edit source]

A Diving mask is a piece of equipment that allows divers to see clearly underwater. It creates an air space in front of the diver's eyes, which is necessary for them to focus properly.

Diving Suits[edit | edit source]

Diving suits are designed to protect divers from the underwater environment. They can be divided into two main types: wet suits and dry suits. Wet suits provide thermal protection by trapping a layer of water against the skin, which is then warmed by body heat. Dry suits, on the other hand, keep the diver dry and are used in colder waters.

Breathing Apparatus[edit | edit source]

The diving regulator is a pressure-regulating device that delivers air to the diver at ambient pressure. It is connected to the scuba tank which stores high-pressure air.

Buoyancy Control Devices[edit | edit source]

Buoyancy control devices (BCDs) allow divers to adjust their buoyancy in order to ascend, descend, or maintain neutral buoyancy at a certain depth.

Diving Fins[edit | edit source]

Diving fins are worn on the feet and provide propulsion, helping divers to move through the water more efficiently.

Safety and Emergency Equipment[edit | edit source]

Diving support equipment also includes safety and emergency devices such as dive computers, which monitor depth and time to help prevent decompression sickness, and dive lights for visibility. Dive flags and surface marker buoys are used to indicate the diver's location to people on the surface.
