Dora E. Angelaki
Dora E. Angelaki is a prominent neuroscientist known for her extensive research in the field of neuroscience, particularly in the areas of vestibular system function, sensorimotor integration, and perception. She is currently a professor at the New York University (NYU) School of Medicine.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Dora E. Angelaki was born in Greece. She completed her undergraduate studies in electrical engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. She then pursued her graduate studies in biomedical engineering at the University of Minnesota, where she earned her Ph.D..
Career[edit | edit source]
Angelaki began her academic career as a faculty member at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She later joined the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, where she served as a professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology. In 2015, she moved to New York University, where she is currently a professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology.
Research[edit | edit source]
Angelaki's research focuses on understanding how the brain processes sensory information to guide motor behavior and perception. Her work has significantly advanced the understanding of the vestibular system, which is responsible for maintaining balance and spatial orientation. She has also explored the neural mechanisms underlying multisensory integration and how the brain combines information from different sensory modalities to create a coherent perception of the environment.
Awards and Honors[edit | edit source]
Throughout her career, Angelaki has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to neuroscience. These include the Society for Neuroscience's Julius Axelrod Prize and election to the National Academy of Sciences.
Selected Publications[edit | edit source]
Angelaki has authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers in prestigious journals. Some of her notable publications include:
- "Title of Paper 1"
- "Title of Paper 2"
- "Title of Paper 3"
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
