Douglas A. Girod is an American physician and academic administrator who currently serves as the 18th Chancellor of the University of Kansas. He assumed office on July 1, 2017, succeeding Bernadette Gray-Little.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Girod was born in California. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis. He then pursued a medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
Girod is a trained otolaryngologist, specializing in head and neck surgery. He joined the faculty of the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1994. Over the years, he has held various positions, including chair of the Department of Otolaryngology and executive vice chancellor of the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Academic administration[edit | edit source]
In 2017, Girod was appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Kansas, becoming the 18th person to hold the position. As chancellor, he oversees the university's main campus in Lawrence, Kansas, as well as its medical center campuses in Kansas City, Kansas, Wichita, Kansas, and Salina, Kansas.

Girod is married and has three children. He is known for his commitment to improving healthcare and education.
