Oxomemazine
(Redirected from Doxergan)
Oxomemazine is a type of antihistamine and anticholinergic drug. It is used in the treatment of various conditions such as allergies, insomnia, and nausea.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The term "Oxomemazine" is derived from the Greek words "oxo", meaning sharp or acid, and "memazine", a class of drugs known as phenothiazines.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Oxomemazine works by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. It also has anticholinergic properties, which means it can reduce the activity of certain nerves in the body. This can help to relieve symptoms such as nausea and insomnia.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Oxomemazine is used to treat a variety of conditions. These include:
- Allergies: Oxomemazine can help to reduce the symptoms of allergies, such as sneezing, itching, and a runny nose.
- Insomnia: Due to its sedative effects, Oxomemazine can be used to treat insomnia.
- Nausea and vomiting: Oxomemazine can help to relieve nausea and vomiting, particularly when these symptoms are caused by motion sickness.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Like all medications, Oxomemazine can cause side effects. These may include:
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision
- Constipation
- Difficulty urinating
If you experience any of these side effects, or if you have any other concerns about your medication, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist.
