Dr. Julius Hibbert is a fictional character in the animated television series The Simpsons. He is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, having previously been voiced by Harry Shearer from his debut in 1990 until 2020. Dr. Hibbert is the most prominent physician in the town of Springfield and is known for his distinctive laugh and calm demeanor.

Character[edit | edit source]

Dr. Hibbert is depicted as a competent and good-natured doctor, often providing medical care to the Simpson family and other residents of Springfield. He is characterized by his jovial personality and his habit of laughing inappropriately at serious moments. Despite his professionalism, he occasionally displays a lack of medical ethics, such as overcharging patients or being influenced by pharmaceutical companies.

Family[edit | edit source]

Dr. Hibbert is married to Bernice Hibbert, and they have three children. His family life is occasionally explored in the series, showing a more personal side to his character.

Role in The Simpsons[edit | edit source]

Dr. Hibbert first appeared in the episode "Bart the Daredevil" and has since become a recurring character. He often serves as a foil to the more unscrupulous Dr. Nick Riviera, providing a contrast between a competent medical professional and a quack doctor. Dr. Hibbert's character is also used to satirize various aspects of the medical profession and healthcare system.

Voice Actors[edit | edit source]

Dr. Hibbert was originally voiced by Harry Shearer, who provided the character's voice from 1990 until 2020. In 2021, Kevin Michael Richardson took over the role, continuing to bring the character to life with his distinctive voice.
