Barnard Arnold "Barney" Gumble is a fictional character in the American animated television series The Simpsons. He is voiced by Dan Castellaneta and first appeared in the series premiere episode, "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". Barney is the town drunk of Springfield and one of Homer Simpson's best friends.

Barney is characterized by his severe alcoholism, which is a central theme in many episodes. He is often seen at Moe's Tavern, the local bar run by Moe Szyslak. Despite his addiction, Barney has shown moments of brilliance and talent, such as his exceptional singing voice and his brief stint as a helicopter pilot.
