- Dutchess County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 297,488. The county seat is Poughkeepsie. Dutchess County is part of the New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in the Mid-Hudson Region of the Hudson Valley.
