Emanuel County is a county located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 22,768. The county seat is Swainsboro. Emanuel County was created on December 10, 1812, from parts of Bulloch and Montgomery counties.

Emanuel County was named in honor of David Emanuel, who was the 24th Governor of Georgia from 1801 to 1802. The county has a rich history that includes agriculture, particularly cotton farming, which was a major economic driver in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 690 square miles (1,790 km²), of which 681 square miles (1,760 km²) is land and 9.3 square miles (24 km²) (1.3%) is water.

As of the 2020 United States census, there were 22,768 people, 8,500 households, and 5,800 families residing in the county. The racial makeup of the county was diverse, with a significant percentage of the population being African American, alongside White, Hispanic, and other racial groups.
Economy[edit | edit source]
The economy of Emanuel County is primarily based on agriculture, manufacturing, and retail trade. The county is known for its production of cotton, peanuts, and timber. In recent years, efforts have been made to diversify the economy by attracting new industries and businesses.

Emanuel County is served by the Emanuel County School District, which includes several elementary, middle, and high schools. The county is also home to East Georgia State College, a public college that offers associate and bachelor's degree programs.

Emanuel County is accessible via several major highways, including U.S. Route 1, U.S. Route 80, and Interstate 16. The county also has a small airport, the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Airport, which serves general aviation.
