Jefferson County is a county located in the central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,106. The county seat is Louisville. The county was created on February 20, 1796, and named after Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States.

Jefferson County was established in 1796 from parts of Burke and Warren counties. It was named in honor of Thomas Jefferson, who was then the Secretary of State under President George Washington. The county seat, Louisville, served as the state capital of Georgia from 1796 to 1806.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 530 square miles (1,400 km²), of which 526 square miles (1,360 km²) is land and 4.1 square miles (11 km²) (0.8%) is water.
