Emeril John Lagasse III (born October 15, 1959) is an American celebrity chef, restaurateur, television personality, and author. He is known for his mastery of Creole cuisine and his self-developed "New New Orleans" style. Lagasse is also recognized for his energetic personality and catchphrases such as "Bam!" and "Kick it up a notch!"

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Emeril Lagasse was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, to a French-Canadian father and a Portuguese mother. He developed an interest in cooking as a teenager while working at a local Portuguese bakery. After high school, he attended Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he earned a degree in culinary arts.

Restaurants[edit | edit source]

Lagasse's career took off when he became the executive chef at the Commander's Palace in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1982. He later opened his own restaurant, Emeril's, in New Orleans in 1990. The success of Emeril's led to the opening of several other restaurants, including NOLA Restaurant, Emeril's New Orleans Fish House, and Emeril's Delmonico.

Lagasse gained national fame with his television shows on the Food Network, including Emeril Live and Essence of Emeril. His dynamic cooking style and engaging personality made him a household name. He has also appeared on other television programs such as Top Chef and Emeril Green.
