From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

History[edit | edit source]

The history of English Canada begins with the British colonization of North America in the 17th century. The British Empire established colonies in what is now Canada, including Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. The Constitution Act, 1867 united these colonies into a single federation, creating the country of Canada.

Culture[edit | edit source]

English Canadian culture is a blend of British, American, and unique Canadian influences. It includes elements such as the Canadian English dialect, English Canadian literature, and English Canadian cinema. English Canadians also celebrate national holidays such as Canada Day and Victoria Day.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

According to the 2016 Canadian Census, approximately 56% of Canadians speak English as their first language. The provinces with the highest percentage of English speakers are Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and British Columbia.

Education[edit | edit source]

Education in English Canada is primarily conducted in English. Each province and territory has its own education system, with standards and curricula varying across the country. English-language schools are available in all provinces and territories, including Quebec and New Brunswick.

Politics[edit | edit source]

English Canada has a significant influence on Canadian politics. The Conservative Party of Canada and the Liberal Party of Canada are the two major political parties in English Canada. English Canadians have served as Prime Ministers and held other significant political positions.
