Eric Schadt
Eric Schadt is an American computational biologist and geneticist. He is known for his work in systems biology and genomics, particularly in the development of computational models to understand complex biological systems and diseases.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Eric Schadt was born in Long Beach, California. He earned his B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from California Polytechnic State University. He then went on to receive his M.S. in Pure Mathematics from UC Davis. Schadt completed his Ph.D. in Biomathematics at UCLA.
Career[edit | edit source]
Schadt began his career at Merck & Co., where he worked on developing computational models to understand the genetic basis of disease. He later joined Rosetta Inpharmatics, a subsidiary of Merck & Co., where he continued his work in genomics and systems biology.
In 2009, Schadt became the Chief Scientific Officer at Pacific Biosciences, a company specializing in DNA sequencing technology. He played a key role in advancing the company's sequencing technology and its applications in genomics.
In 2011, Schadt was appointed as the Founding Director of the Icahn Institute for Genomics and Multiscale Biology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Under his leadership, the institute has become a leading center for genomics and systems biology research.
