Eric Stoltz (born September 30, 1961) is an American actor, director, and producer. He is known for his roles in films such as Mask, Pulp Fiction, and Some Kind of Wonderful. Stoltz has also worked extensively in television, both in front of and behind the camera.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Eric Stoltz was born in Whittier, California, and raised in both American Samoa and Santa Barbara, California. He is the son of Evelyn B. (née Vawter), a violinist and schoolteacher, and Jack Stoltz, an elementary school teacher. Stoltz attended the University of Southern California, but dropped out to pursue acting full-time.
Career[edit | edit source]
Film[edit | edit source]
Stoltz's breakthrough role came in 1985 when he starred as Rocky Dennis in Mask, a performance that earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination. He gained further recognition for his role as Lance in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994).
In 1987, Stoltz starred in Some Kind of Wonderful, a film written by John Hughes. He played the role of Keith Nelson, a high school student caught in a love triangle.
Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in Back to the Future (1985), but was replaced by Michael J. Fox after several weeks of filming due to creative differences.

Stoltz has appeared in numerous television series, including Mad About You, Chicago Hope, and Caprica. He has also directed episodes of Glee, Nashville, and How to Get Away with Murder.
Theater[edit | edit source]
In addition to his work in film and television, Stoltz has an extensive theater background. He has appeared in productions on and off Broadway, including The Importance of Being Earnest and Our Town.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Stoltz is known for being private about his personal life. He has been involved in various charitable activities and is an advocate for the arts.
