Ernest Guglielminetti
Ernest Guglielminetti (1862–1943) was a Swiss physician and public health pioneer, best known for his innovative work in the field of road surfacing. His contributions to the medical field and public health have had a lasting impact, particularly in the area of dust control.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Guglielminetti was born in 1862 in Brig, a small town in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. He studied medicine at the University of Geneva, where he developed a keen interest in public health issues.

After completing his medical studies, Guglielminetti worked as a physician in Paris, France. During his time in Paris, he observed the detrimental health effects of dust on the city's inhabitants. This led him to develop a method for dust suppression on city streets, which involved the use of tar.
In 1902, Guglielminetti introduced his method in Monaco, where it was well received. His innovative approach to dust control quickly spread to other cities and countries, significantly improving public health conditions and paving the way for modern road surfacing techniques.
