Esino DOC

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Esino DOC is a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) wine designation for white and red wines produced in the Esino Valley region of Marche, Italy. The Esino DOC was established in 2005, and it is one of the youngest DOCs in Italy.

History[edit | edit source]

The history of viticulture in the Esino Valley dates back to the Roman Empire, when the region was known for its high-quality wines. However, the Esino DOC was only officially recognized in 2005, making it one of the newest DOCs in Italy.

Geography and Climate[edit | edit source]

The Esino Valley is located in the central part of the Marche region, between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The soil in the region is predominantly calcareous and rich in minerals, which contributes to the unique characteristics of the wines.

Grape Varieties[edit | edit source]

The Esino DOC allows for the production of both white and red wines. The white wines are primarily made from Verdicchio and Trebbiano grapes, while the red wines are made from Sangiovese and Montepulciano grapes.

Wine Production[edit | edit source]

The production of Esino DOC wines is regulated by strict guidelines to ensure the quality and authenticity of the wines. The white wines must contain at least 50% Verdicchio and/or Trebbiano grapes, while the red wines must contain at least 50% Sangiovese and/or Montepulciano grapes. The wines are typically aged for a minimum of one year before they are released for sale.

Wine Styles and Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Esino DOC wines are known for their distinct characteristics. The white wines are typically light to medium-bodied, with fresh acidity and flavors of green apple, pear, and almond. The red wines, on the other hand, are medium to full-bodied, with firm tannins and flavors of cherry, plum, and spice.

Food Pairing[edit | edit source]

Esino DOC wines are versatile and can be paired with a variety of dishes. The white wines are perfect with seafood, white meat, and light pasta dishes, while the red wines are ideal with red meat, game, and aged cheeses.
