Eugene Gu
Eugene Gu is an American physician, entrepreneur, and social media personality. He is known for his advocacy on healthcare issues, particularly those affecting underserved communities, and for his outspoken views on social and political matters.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Eugene Gu was born in San Francisco, California. He attended Duke University for his undergraduate studies, where he earned a degree in Biology. He later attended the Duke University School of Medicine, where he received his M.D. degree.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his medical degree, Gu began his residency in general surgery at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During his residency, he became involved in research on organ transplantation and stem cell technology. He co-founded a biotechnology company, Ganogen, which focuses on using stem cells to grow human organs in animals for transplantation.
Advocacy and Social Media Presence[edit | edit source]
Eugene Gu is widely recognized for his active presence on Twitter, where he frequently discusses issues related to healthcare, social justice, and politics. He has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration and has used his platform to advocate for universal healthcare and other progressive policies.
Legal Issues[edit | edit source]
In 2017, Gu was one of several plaintiffs in a lawsuit against Donald Trump, alleging that the president's practice of blocking critics on Twitter was unconstitutional. The case, known as Knight First Amendment Institute v. Trump, resulted in a ruling that public officials cannot block individuals from their social media accounts based on their viewpoints.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Eugene Gu is married and has one child. He continues to be active in both his medical career and his advocacy work.
