History[edit | edit source]

FEMSA has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1890. The company initially started as a brewery, producing and distributing beer in Mexico. Over the years, FEMSA expanded its operations and diversified its product portfolio. In 1988, FEMSA acquired a majority stake in Coca-Cola FEMSA, becoming one of the largest bottlers of Coca-Cola products in the world.

In the early 2000s, FEMSA entered the retail industry through the acquisition of OXXO, a convenience store chain in Mexico. This marked the beginning of FEMSA's expansion into the retail sector. Today, FEMSA Comercio operates OXXO stores not only in Mexico but also in other countries across Latin America.
