Federal University of Campina Grande
Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) is a public university located in Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. Established on April 11, 2002, through the law 10.419, UFCG was created by the division of the older Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), aiming to foster higher education and research in the state's western region. The university is a significant center for academic excellence, particularly known for its contributions to the fields of engineering, medicine, and agriculture.
History[edit | edit source]
The origins of UFCG trace back to the foundation of the Polytechnic School in 1952, which later became part of the Federal University of Paraíba when it was established in 1955. Over the years, the demand for higher education institutions in the interior of the state grew, leading to the creation of UFCG. This move was part of a broader federal initiative to decentralize higher education in Brazil, allowing for more localized and specialized institutions that could better serve the needs of their regions.
