Formocortal
Formocortal (also known as Fluorometholone pivalate) is a glucocorticoid used in the treatment of skin diseases. It is a derivative of fluorometholone, a synthetic glucocorticoid, which is chemically related to the naturally occurring hormone, cortisol or hydrocortisone, produced by the adrenal glands.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Formocortal is a glucocorticoid, a type of steroid hormone, which has anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It works by reducing the activity of the immune system, thereby reducing inflammation and the symptoms associated with it.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Formocortal is used in the treatment of various skin diseases, including eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. It is applied topically, usually in the form of a cream or ointment.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Like all medications, Formocortal can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Common side effects include skin irritation, burning, itching, and dryness. Less common side effects include skin discoloration, stretch marks, and hair growth.
Precautions[edit | edit source]
Before using Formocortal, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other corticosteroids (e.g., hydrocortisone, prednisone); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
