Fruitarianism
Fruitarianism is a diet that consists predominantly of raw fruit. This diet may also include nuts and seeds, but other foods are significantly limited or eliminated. Fruitarianism is a subset of dietary veganism.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Fruitarianism is a diet that is primarily composed of fruits in the botanical sense, and possibly nuts and seeds, without animal products. Fruitarianism is a subset of dietary veganism.
Health effects[edit | edit source]
The health effects of fruitarianism are controversial. Some studies suggest that a diet high in fruits can lead to nutrient deficiencies, particularly in protein, vitamin B12, iron, calcium, and omega-3 fatty acids. However, other studies suggest that a fruitarian diet can provide adequate nutrition if carefully planned.
Criticism[edit | edit source]
Fruitarianism has been criticized for being nutritionally unbalanced and for the potential health risks it poses. Critics argue that the diet is too restrictive and does not provide all the necessary nutrients for optimal health.
