He is a professor and the Dean of the College of Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Perry's research has significantly contributed to the understanding of the molecular basis of neurodegenerative diseases.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

George Perry was born in Lompoc, California. He completed his undergraduate studies in Zoology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He then earned his Ph.D. in Marine Biology from the Scripps Research Institute, where he studied under the guidance of S. Jonathan Singer.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his doctoral studies, Perry conducted postdoctoral research at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He later joined the faculty at the Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he began his pioneering work on Alzheimer's disease.

In 2006, Perry was appointed as the Dean of the College of Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Under his leadership, the college has expanded its research programs and increased its focus on neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases.

Research[edit | edit source]

George Perry is best known for his research on the role of oxidative stress in Alzheimer's disease. His work has provided insights into the mechanisms by which oxidative damage contributes to the pathology of the disease. Perry has published over 1,000 scientific articles and has been cited more than 100,000 times, making him one of the most influential researchers in the field of neuroscience.

Perry's research has also explored the role of mitochondria in neurodegeneration, the involvement of tau protein in Alzheimer's disease, and the potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Awards and honors[edit | edit source]

George Perry has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to neuroscience and Alzheimer's disease research. He is a fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Microscopy Society of America.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

George Perry resides in San Antonio, Texas, where he continues to lead research efforts at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He is married and has two children.
