Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for operating the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. The hospital is located near junction 15 of the M4 motorway.

In terms of performance, the trust received a "good" rating for the quality of services but a "weak" rating for resource management according to the Healthcare Commission in 2005/2006. The trust faced job cuts in 2006, with up to 200 positions being axed, including potential redundancies. It was also one of the first trusts to implement film-less x-rays using the Picture archiving and communication system as part of the NHS's National Programme for IT.

Financially, the trust recorded a deficit of £17.4 million in 2013/4 and was expected to end 2014/5 with a £2.9 million deficit. This led to an investigation by Monitor. The investigation found that the trust lacked a robust financial recovery plan and a long-term strategy to ensure continued service provision. The trust anticipated a deficit of £14 million for 2015/6.

In March 2016, the trust reported that 49 emergency patients had waited over 12 hours to be allocated a bed, making it one of the highest figures for any trust in England.
