HOXA9

HOXA9 is a gene that belongs to the homeobox family of genes. The protein encoded by this gene is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in embryogenesis and fetal development.

Function[edit | edit source]

The HOXA9 gene is part of the A cluster on chromosome 7 and it is located in close proximity to the HOXA10 gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a sequence-specific transcription factor that is part of the homeodomain family. It is involved in the regulation of gene expression, morphogenesis, and differentiation.

Clinical Significance[edit | edit source]

Abnormal expression of the HOXA9 gene has been associated with a variety of cancer types, including leukemia, lung cancer, and ovarian cancer. In particular, overexpression of HOXA9 has been linked to poor prognosis in acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Research[edit | edit source]

Research into the role of HOXA9 in cancer development and progression is ongoing. Studies have suggested that HOXA9 may promote tumor growth and metastasis by regulating the expression of genes involved in cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and cell adhesion.
