Harold Bornstein
American physician
Harold Nelson Bornstein (March 26, 1947 – January 8, 2021) was an American physician best known for being the personal doctor of Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States. Bornstein was a gastroenterologist who practiced medicine in New York City for over four decades.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Bornstein was born in New York City to Jacob Bornstein, a prominent physician, and Gertrude Bornstein. He attended Tufts University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1968. He continued his education at the Tufts University School of Medicine, receiving his M.D. in 1975. Following his graduation, Bornstein completed his residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
Bornstein joined his father's medical practice in Manhattan, where he specialized in gastroenterology. Over the years, he built a reputation for his unconventional style and his commitment to his patients. His practice was known for its personalized care and attention to detail.
Relationship with Donald Trump[edit | edit source]
Bornstein became widely known as the personal physician to Donald Trump. He began treating Trump in 1980, following in the footsteps of his father, who had also been Trump's doctor. Bornstein gained national attention during the 2016 presidential campaign when he released a letter declaring Trump to be in "excellent physical health." The letter, which was later revealed to have been dictated by Trump himself, was criticized for its hyperbolic language.
In 2017, Bornstein claimed that Trump's bodyguard and two other men had "raided" his office, taking all of Trump's medical records. This incident led to further scrutiny of Bornstein's role as Trump's physician.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Bornstein was known for his distinctive appearance, often sporting long hair and a casual demeanor. He was married to Melissa Brown and had five children. Outside of his medical practice, Bornstein had a passion for music and was an accomplished pianist.
Death[edit | edit source]
Harold Bornstein passed away on January 8, 2021, at the age of 73. His death was announced by his family, who described him as a "force of nature" and a "loving husband and father."
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Bornstein's career was marked by his long-standing relationship with Donald Trump and his unique approach to medicine. Despite the controversies surrounding his role as Trump's physician, he was remembered by his patients for his dedication and care.
