The calcaneus is the bone of the heel.

Latin calx = heel.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The calcaneus is the largest of the tarsal bones.
It is situated at the lower and back part of the foot It transmits the weight of the body to the ground It also forms a strong lever for the muscles of the calf.
Shape[edit | edit source]
It is irregularly cuboidal in form, having its long axis directed forward and lateralward;

The calcaneum presents for examination six surfaces.
