Holland Virginia Taylor (born January 14, 1943) is an American actress and playwright. She is known for her roles in television and film, as well as her work in theater.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Holland Taylor was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is the youngest of three daughters. Taylor attended Westtown School, a Quaker boarding school in West Chester, Pennsylvania. She later graduated from Bennington College in 1964 with a degree in drama.
Career[edit | edit source]
Television[edit | edit source]
Taylor began her television career in the mid-1960s. She gained recognition for her role as Denise Cavanaugh on the soap opera The Edge of Night from 1980 to 1981. She is perhaps best known for her role as Evelyn Harper on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men, for which she received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Taylor won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Judge Roberta Kittleson on the legal drama The Practice.

Taylor has appeared in numerous films, including Romancing the Stone (1984), Jewel of the Nile (1985), Legally Blonde (2001), and The Truman Show (1998). Her performances have been praised for their wit and versatility.
Theater[edit | edit source]
In addition to her work in television and film, Taylor is an accomplished theater actress. She wrote and starred in the one-woman play Ann, based on the life of Ann Richards, the former governor of Texas. The play premiered on Broadway in 2013 and earned Taylor a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play.

Taylor has been in a relationship with actress Sarah Paulson since 2015. She is an advocate for LGBT rights and has been open about her sexuality.
