Hormonal System

The hormonal system, also known as the endocrine system, is a complex network of glands and organs that produce, store, and secrete hormones. Hormones are chemical substances that act as messengers in the body, coordinating and regulating various physiological processes, including growth, metabolism, reproduction, and mood. The hormonal system plays a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis, the body's internal balance, by responding to internal and external stimuli.

The hormonal system comprises several major glands, including the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, and the reproductive organs (ovaries in females and testes in males). The ovaries and testes produce sex hormones, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, which regulate reproductive functions and secondary sexual characteristics.

Diagnosis of hormonal disorders typically involves blood tests to measure hormone levels, imaging studies to assess gland size and structure, and sometimes genetic testing. Treatment varies depending on the disorder and may include hormone replacement therapy, medication to adjust hormone levels, or surgery to remove tumors or abnormal gland tissue.
