Hydrocodone/aspirin

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Hydrocodone/Aspirin is a combination drug used primarily in the treatment of moderate to severe pain. It combines hydrocodone, a narcotic analgesic, and aspirin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic opioid derived from codeine, one of the opioid alkaloids found in the opium poppy. It works by binding to and activating the mu-opioid receptor in the brain, spinal cord, and other organs in the body, which decreases the perception of pain.

Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that promote inflammation, pain, and fever in the body.

Hydrocodone/Aspirin is indicated for the relief of moderate to severe pain. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by a healthcare provider.

Serious side effects may include slow/shallow breathing, seizures, hearing changes (such as hearing loss, ringing in the ears), mental/mood changes, severe stomach/abdominal pain, difficulty urinating, signs of your adrenal glands not working well (such as loss of appetite, unusual tiredness, weight loss).
