Isorhapontin
Isorhapontin is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol compound. It is a glucoside of the stilbenoid resveratrol. Isorhapontin can be found in the bark of Picea sitchensis, the Sitka spruce, and in wine.
Chemical Structure and Properties[edit | edit source]
Isorhapontin is a stilbenoid glucoside, meaning it is a sugar derivative of the stilbenoid resveratrol. Its chemical formula is C20H22O8. The compound is a white crystalline solid at room temperature. It is soluble in water and organic solvents such as ethanol and methanol.
Sources[edit | edit source]
Isorhapontin is found in the bark of the Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis), a tree native to the west coast of North America. It is also present in wine, particularly red wine, due to the fermentation process.
Health Effects[edit | edit source]
Research into the health effects of isorhapontin is ongoing. As a derivative of resveratrol, it may share some of the same potential health benefits. These include anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties. However, more research is needed to confirm these effects and understand how isorhapontin works in the human body.
