Ivo Kralj was born in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, in 1950. He showed an early interest in medicine, inspired by his father, who was a general practitioner. Kralj pursued his medical degree at the University of Ljubljana, where he graduated with honors in 1974. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the same institution, where he developed a keen interest in joint replacement procedures.
