João Semedo (20 June 1951 – 17 July 2018) was a Portuguese politician and physician. He was a prominent member of the Left Bloc (Bloco de Esquerda) and served as a Member of the European Parliament and the Assembly of the Republic.

João Semedo was born in Lisbon, Portugal, on 20 June 1951. He pursued a degree in medicine and became a physician. His early career was marked by his involvement in the Carnation Revolution, which led to the establishment of a democratic government in Portugal.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Semedo was a founding member of the Left Bloc, a left-wing political party in Portugal. He was known for his advocacy on issues such as healthcare, social justice, and workers' rights. Semedo served as a Member of the European Parliament and later as a member of the Assembly of the Republic, where he was a vocal critic of austerity measures and neoliberal policies.
