This led to the foundation of the Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology (JKCAT) in 1981, named after Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first President. It was later elevated to university status in 1994, becoming the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
