Just Eat
Just Eat is a British online food order and delivery service. It acts as an intermediary between independent takeaway food outlets and customers. The company is headquartered in London, England.
History[edit | edit source]
Just Eat was founded in Denmark in 2001 by Jesper Buch, along with four other entrepreneurs. The company expanded rapidly, entering the United Kingdom market in 2006. In 2014, Just Eat was listed on the London Stock Exchange and became a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. In 2020, Just Eat merged with Takeaway.com, forming Just Eat Takeaway.
Operations[edit | edit source]
Just Eat operates in multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries. The platform allows customers to search for local takeaways, place orders, and pay online. Just Eat charges restaurants a commission fee for each order placed through its platform.
Technology[edit | edit source]
The Just Eat platform is available on both web and mobile applications. It uses GPS technology to track deliveries and provides real-time updates to customers. The company also employs data analytics to optimize delivery routes and improve customer service.
Corporate Social Responsibility[edit | edit source]
Just Eat is involved in various corporate social responsibility initiatives. These include efforts to reduce plastic waste by encouraging the use of biodegradable packaging and supporting local communities through charity partnerships.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
Just Eat has faced criticism over its commission fees, which some restaurant owners claim are too high. Additionally, there have been concerns about the working conditions of delivery drivers, who are often classified as independent contractors rather than employees.
