Kolokythopita
Kolokythopita is a traditional Greek dish, often categorized as a type of pie. The main ingredient of Kolokythopita is zucchini, which is known as kolokytho in Greek, hence the name of the dish.
Ingredients[edit | edit source]
Kolokythopita is primarily made from zucchini, but it also includes other ingredients such as onions, dill, mint, feta cheese, and phyllo dough. The zucchini is usually grated and then mixed with the other ingredients before being wrapped in the phyllo dough.
Preparation[edit | edit source]
The preparation of Kolokythopita involves several steps. First, the zucchini is grated and salted to draw out excess moisture. The grated zucchini is then combined with the other ingredients to form the filling. This mixture is then spread onto sheets of phyllo dough, which are folded over the filling to create a pie. The pie is then baked until the phyllo dough is golden and crispy.
Variations[edit | edit source]
There are several variations of Kolokythopita, depending on the region of Greece. Some versions include other vegetables such as eggplant or spinach, while others may include different types of cheese or herbs. Despite these variations, the basic concept of a zucchini-filled pie remains the same.
Serving[edit | edit source]
Kolokythopita is typically served warm and can be eaten as a main dish or as a side dish. It is often served with a side of Greek salad or other fresh vegetables. In Greece, it is commonly enjoyed during the summer months when zucchini is in season.
