Linda Evangelista was born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She is of Italian descent, and her parents emigrated from Pignataro Interamna in Italy. Evangelista attended a Roman Catholic school and was raised in a traditional Catholic family.

Evangelista began her modeling career in 1984 when she signed with Elite Model Management. She gained fame in the late 1980s and became a prominent figure in the fashion industry.
