== List of cakes ==

A cake is a form of sweet dessert that is typically baked. In its oldest forms, cakes were modifications of bread, but cakes now cover a wide range of preparations that can be simple or elaborate, and that share features with other desserts such as pastries, meringues, custards, and pies. The following is a list of notable cakes.

  • Sponge cake - A light, airy cake made with beaten eggs and no added fat.

  • Chiffon cake - A very light cake made with vegetable oil, eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and flavorings.

Yeast Cakes[edit | edit source]

  • Babka - A sweet yeast cake with swirls of chocolate or cinnamon.
  • Kugelhopf - A yeast-based cake traditionally baked in a distinctive circular Bundt mold.
