The United States Senate is the upper house of the United States Congress, which, along with the House of Representatives, comprises the legislative branch of the federal government of the United States. The Senate is composed of 100 senators, with each of the 50 states being represented by two senators. Senators serve six-year terms, with approximately one-third of the seats up for election every two years.
