List of Potato Cultivars
The potato (Solanum tuberosum) is a starchy, tuberous crop from the perennial nightshade family. It is native to the Americas, and has been cultivated for at least 7,000 years. There are thousands of different potato cultivars, each with their own unique characteristics. This article provides a list of some of the most notable potato cultivars.
Early Cultivars[edit | edit source]
- Adirondack Blue: A potato with blue flesh and skin, high in antioxidants.
- Adirondack Red: A red-fleshed and red-skinned potato, also high in antioxidants.
- Arran Pilot: A very early, white-skinned and white-fleshed potato, popular in the UK.
Maincrop Cultivars[edit | edit source]
- Desiree: A red-skinned and yellow-fleshed potato, popular for its versatility in cooking.
- King Edward: A white-skinned potato with pink coloration, known for its excellent roasting qualities.
- Maris Piper: The most widely grown potato variety in the UK, known for its high yields and resistance to disease.

- Pink Fir Apple: An old French variety, with a distinctive pink skin and cream flesh.
- Russet Burbank: A brown-skinned, white-fleshed potato that is the most widely grown potato in North America.
