MBZP
MBZP (Methylbenzylpiperazine) is a stimulant drug which is a derivative of benzylpiperazine. MBZP has been sold as an ingredient in legal recreational drugs known as "Party pills", and is an analog of piperazine-based stimulants, where the benzyl group of BZP has been replaced by a methyl group.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
MBZP effects on the human body are not fully understood. However, it is known that it acts as a serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine releasing agent and possibly as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It is also thought to have properties as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
Legality[edit | edit source]
MBZP is classified as a Class C drug in New Zealand. It is also illegal in Japan and the United Kingdom. In the United States, MBZP is not controlled at the federal level, but could be considered an analog of BZP.
